What is Orthodontics?
This is where we move teeth from an unfavourable position to a favourable one.
Why is orthodontics needed?
Sometimes this is the best way of correcting mal placed teeth
Does it hurt?
After having the appliance adjusted, sometimes the teeth will ache.
How do they work?
'There are three types.
- Conventional Removable orthodontics involves an appliance with springs on which can be used to move teeth.
- Conventional fixed orthodontics are the most commonly used at the moment and these are the 'train track' braces you may be familiar with.
- Finally we can provide the clearstep system (www.clearstep.co.uk) which is a series of clear removable braces which fit over the teeth and gradually move the teeth into the correct position.
What does it involve?
Three weekly or monthly visits are usually necessary to have the brace adjusted. The brace can take anything from 6 weeks to two years depending on the type of malocclusion (the way the teeth meet)
What will my teeth look like after treatment?
This varies from case to case and we would discuss this with you.
Are there any contra-indications?
Orthodontics are not appropriate where there is gum disease, and the teeth have to be kept scrupulously clean during treatment.
Where can this treatment be obtained?
We are happy to provide simple orthodontics at Gentle Dental, more complex cases may be referred.
